In the SSI Nudibranch Ecology program, you will explore the world of nudibranchs, also commonly called sea slugs, in seven detailed sessions. These sessions include nudibranch classification and habitats, their movement, and sensory and respiratory systems.
Discover their complex reproductive strategies, relationships with other marine organisms, feeding habits, and the crucial role they play in marine ecosystems. You will also explore their defense mechanisms and interactions with humans, with an emphasis on current nudibranch research and conservation initiatives.
What are nudibranchs ?
Nudibranchs, commonly known as sea slugs, are soft-bodied, tiny marine mollusks with no external shell. There are over 3000 different species of nudibranchs worldwide found in all ocean zones!
While some sea slugs live in colder waters, you will find most species in shallow, warm water areas. Nudibranchs are most famous for their brilliant, eye-catching colors and skin patterns, making them a favorite amongst scuba divers and underwater photographers.
